Rugged and wild limestone cliffs, caves and obelisks, natural rock arches interrupted by fjords and white sandy coves, but without safe harbours to shelter from the fierce winds. A spectacular strip of the Mediterranean, with the colours of the southern seas, is found in Ogliastra, land of olives and bold flavours, between Cardedu, Arbatax and the Gulf of Orosei. So much so that films like Swept Away by an Unusual Destiny in the Blue Sea of August by Lina Wertmüller were shot here. The mythical coast offers the spectacle of Cala Mariolu, the dazzling crescent of Cala Luna, Cala Sisine nestled between the rocks. On Foddini beach stands Hotel Corte Bianca, with rooms furnished in an ethno-chic style with references to the materials that nature has bestowed upon Sardinia.
In almost 90 kilometres of coastline, Ogliastra offers an abundance of beaches!
One can discover a variety of shores: white sandy, smooth pebbled, protected by cliffs, fringed by Mediterranean scrub and flowers that in spring intoxicate with their scent.
Beaches washed by a clear and crystalline sea with all shades of blue. Only by coming from the sea or taking a beautiful trek on foot can one enjoy this idyllic stretch of coastline on the Gulf of Orosei, a refuge for the last specimens of monk seal.
Cala Mariolu is an inlet covered with tiny, smooth pebbles, white and beige, where the waters are clear and the seabeds shallow.
The beach is sheltered by a vertical cliff that breaks the coast forming small isolated coves.
